PACKING LIST
For All Youth and Ma’s and Pa’s
This list is provided to help you gather the gear you will need to be a successful pioneer. Because of the weight and space limitations of our handcart design and our attempt to create an authentic pioneer experience, you will be limited in the amount of gear you can bring. You will only need the items listed here, please don’t bring anything else.

Large, filling sack lunch. Everything must be disposable.

5-gallon bucket w/ lid. No backpacks, please. (PLEASE LABEL BUCKET AND LID)

1 warm sleeping bag (it gets cold in the mountains at night) (LABELED)
-
1 rain poncho and/or sheet of plastic (for rainwear and as a ground cloth)
-
1 pair of camp shoes, tennis shoes (an old pair)
-
1 pair of shoes to walk the trail (Trail running shoes or day hiking shoes are recommended. Unless you have ankle issues, hiking boots are usually too stiff and heavy. Whatever is worn should be completely broken-in prior to Trek.)

1 tin cup (LABELED)

1 carabiner (to attach your tin cup to your apron/pants)

1 small hand towel and a comb or brush

2 sets of underclothing

4 pair of sturdy socks

Leather work gloves

1 toothbrush

toothpaste

deodorant

2 heavy-duty plastic garbage bags

An old blanket (wool, if possible)

Personal journal and pen or pencil

An old set of scriptures and a church magazine

Insect repellent

Sunscreen (at least SPF 30)

Chapstick or lip balm (w/ sunscreen)

5 band-aids and prescribed medication only
Men Should Bring:

2 pair of wool, cotton or canvas pants (no jeans allowed)

2 long sleeved shirts (light-weight flannels are best, but any will do)

1 warm jacket - no sweatshirts, please

1 western-style hat (no baseball, bucket, or army hats)

1 pair suspenders
Women Should Bring:

2 mid-calf length, long-sleeved dresses (or skirt or jumper with long-sleeved blouses)

1 or 2 bonnets, or a straw hat if you prefer. It will probably be windy. No baseball, bucket, or army hats.

1 pair knee-length bloomers (can be made out of old pajama bottoms or hospital scrubs)

1 apron - pockets are helpful

1 warm jacket – no sweatshirts, please

Feminine hygiene supplies and an extra pair of bloomers
Optional Items:

Allergy meds for ryegrass – If you are even slightly prone to allergies, think about this.

A harmonica or other small musical instrument

Disposable camera labeled w/ name (The Stake will be taking many digital photos of Trek)
Phones are not needed. Please leave them home.
